From fashion to yoga influencer

Cami, how long have you been doing yoga and what motivated you to start?

I've been practicing yoga since 2016. I discovered yoga during a road trip in Asia. I went on a retreat in Nepal, and since then yoga has been a part of my daily life.


What fascinates you most about yoga and how do you practice it in everyday life?

What truly fascinates me is how I feel when I move my body consciously. It offers my body and mind freedom. I practice yoga at home or early in the morning by the sea. I practice constantly, but I don't step onto the mat unless I feel like it. I make a real effort to respect my body and its needs, even though sometimes I don't want to stop!


Has yoga changed your attitude towards life, your appearance, or your well-being?

I didn't notice it at first, but yes. It's completely changed my outlook on life. I approach some sensitive issues more calmly, taking a step back before making a decision. Like everyone else, I have bad days too, and that's okay :)


What motivated you to start the Instagram account "camicottani"?

Initially, I posted fashion content. After my yoga practice took up more space in my life, I decided to share that aspect as well. Now, my interest in yoga outweighs my interest in fashion. People seemed to like the yoga poses I shared, so I thought maybe I should focus on that.


In your blog, you focus particularly on feminism, ecology, vegetarianism, and a conscious lifestyle. Have these always been relevant topics in your life?

I developed these interests through various travels and the people close to me. I try every day to be a better version of myself, not only for myself but also for the environment. Eating a vegan diet, supporting women, and caring for the Earth are all things that are important to me daily.


Do you also teach yoga outside of YouTube?

I'm currently training to become a yoga teacher. So far, I've been sharing my yoga practice (yoga flows and instructions for poses I like) on my YouTube channel.


What about having your own yoga studio?

Yes! I already have many plans, but I think it will take a while until I have achieved all these dreams and goals.


How long have you been vegan? How did you come to do it?

My New Year's resolution for 2019, after watching several documentaries about meat farms, was to become a vegetarian. Animal welfare was clearly my primary motivation for giving up meat. My sister was already vegan, so I was familiar with the topic, although I wasn't fully aware of the positive health effects of a vegan diet. One day, I also decided to cut out dairy and committed to a vegan diet. Because of this, I learned daily how to improve my nutrition and took particular care to get advice from my sister and the vegan community on Facebook. There are countless books and online resources on how to adopt a proper vegan diet.



Do you have a motto that guides you in life?

"Be kind to yourself and to others" or "Don't do to others what you wouldn't want done to yourself." A bit of a cliché, perhaps, but it makes sense to me :)


What do you wish for in the next 10 years?

I want to stay true to myself and my values, and I want to bring positivity into other people's lives. That's what's most important to me. I want the people around me to feel good, safe, and healthy.


I hope that everyone finds inner peace through practicing yoga or something else. Love yourself, accept feeling sad or tired sometimes, enjoy every moment, even the simple things! Don't forget to live in the present!
