Learn in the following interview how Sarah went from equestrian sports to yoga six years ago, became mentally and physically stronger, and what a "like" on Instagram could trigger.
Sarah, how long have you been practicing yoga and what motivated you to do it?
I discovered yoga in 2016 after a serious injury. I had been doing vaulting (gymnastics on horseback) for over 10 years. At 16, I fell off a horse during training, after which I could never do vaulting again. It took almost a whole year before I could start doing sports again. Since I've always enjoyed sports, I thought about how I wanted to exercise from then on. A yoga studio opened in my town around that time, and I was told that yoga could help me with my injury.

How would you describe yourself?
I would describe myself as a cheerful and open person. I love challenges and growing from them. Traveling, healthy eating, sports, and a small community of like-minded people are what I enjoy most. I'm more introverted than extroverted, but I can talk for hours about topics that interest me—especially with people who share that interest. If I have the choice between the city and nature, I choose nature. I'm passionate about the simple life.
Has yoga changed your outlook on life, your demeanor, or your well-being?
Definitely. I discovered yoga as a tool for my physical well-being. But I quickly realized that yoga isn't just about physical activity; it has a positive impact on all areas of life. With yoga, I healed my knee injury, became stronger (physically and mentally), more self-confident, learned a lot about myself, recognized my limits and when to push past them to grow, and much, much more. For me, yoga is a tool for mastering life in all its facets.

What forms of yoga do you practice?
I completed my training in Ashtanga, Vinyasa, and Yin Yoga. My favorite style to teach and practice is Vinyasa Yoga. I love the creative aspect of it; stepping onto the mat, leaving everything behind, turning on the music, and simply flowing.
What schools have you already attended?
After graduating from secondary school, I attended a grammar school in Germany. After 10th grade, I took a break for a year of high school in America. Life abroad inspired and changed me so much that I decided to drop out of university and instead pursue what I truly enjoy: yoga teacher training in India, studies to become a health coach, and training to be a flight attendant.

Was it always clear to you that you wanted to do something in this field?
For a long time, I wasn't sure what career path I wanted to pursue. Health has always interested me, but it's a vast field with countless career options. My high school year in Texas really helped me understand what's truly important to me in life. Funnily enough, I found my way to yoga teacher training in India through an Instagram "like" from an Indian yoga school. There, I met a good friend who told me about an online health coaching program – and that's how I got involved. After my time in India, I taught yoga at several studios in Germany. One of my students knew how much I loved to travel and told me that Lufthansa was looking for flight attendants. So, in 2017, I applied to be a flight attendant and have been flying around the world ever since.
How did you come to eat a vegan diet?
When I was 12, my family and I went to my uncle's farm. During our stay, a pig was slaughtered, and something clicked for me. Although I'd always known where the meat on our plates came from, it was only through this experience that I realized I absolutely didn't want to support it anymore. No one in my family was vegetarian, but for me, it was the only morally right way. It wasn't until I was 18 that I started to wonder why people live vegan. I thought that as a vegetarian, I was doing everything I could to avoid causing suffering to animals. I started researching and was shocked by how animals were treated in the dairy and egg industries. So, I became vegan—for the sake of the animals. Over time, more and more reasons (like health) came into play. Now, my sister, parents, aunt, cousin, and boyfriend are also vegan—which makes things much easier.
