Stefanie ( @estefaniaolavideyoga ) discovered yoga in a way that was anything but planned.
But what led her to complete two yoga teacher trainings and several workshops, and how she was able to turn her passion into a profession, the yoga teacher living in Tyrol revealed to us in an open interview.
Dear Stefanie, how did you start doing yoga?
Yoga has been a part of my life since my youth, as my mother is also a yoga teacher and I was very fortunate to come into contact with it so early on. To be honest, back then I was more interested in the yoga philosophy and mantras than the physical aspect, asanas, or breathing techniques. At that time, I was relatively inflexible and thought that to be able to attend a yoga class, I already had to be flexible.
It wasn't until 2015, when I contracted dengue fever while backpacking through South America on one of my many trips, and my body just wouldn't function properly anymore, that I realized life can end much faster than you'd like. So, intuitively, I dragged myself to a Yin Yoga class at a surf hostel and quickly noticed how good it made me feel, both physically and mentally. I also chanted my then-favorite mantra, "Om Trayambakam," daily to draw strength and vowed that if I recovered, I would take better care of my body and share the teachings of yoga. (Even though at that point I could only reach my knees with my palms in a forward bend, I felt that yoga was so much more.) I was on the yoga mat every day as I slowly made my full recovery. Because yoga has the power to lead everyone to bliss and to their own true, pure, radiant essence.
Has yoga improved your outlook on life or your physical posture?
Having been intensively involved with yoga since my youth, my outlook on life has always been positive, open, and loving towards both the small and the big things in life. However, practicing yoga has dramatically changed my well-being. For years I suffered from back pain, which disappeared after intensive practice. Furthermore, I am happier and more content with myself – just as I am – with all my quirks and imperfections, than ever before in my life!
Why do you think yoga is so popular right now?
With yoga, we're hitting the mark! So much is bombarding us from the outside, and we're constantly pressured to do more, faster, further. We're available 24/7 and rarely take the time to connect with ourselves. The serenity and relaxation that can be achieved through practicing yoga helps us reconnect with ourselves and return to our true nature and strength.
What fascinates you most about it and how do you practice it in everyday life?
For me, it's a never-ending story. There's still so much to learn, try, and share. Every time I step onto the mat, it's completely different. There's something for everyone in yoga because it's so diverse. You quickly realize that you subconsciously carry the philosophy of yoga into your everyday life, behaving differently in various situations, living more consciously, and appreciating your interactions with people, animals, and nature much more. I would even say that you achieve holistic health and become even happier!
What does your perfect yoga class look like? Do you use any equipment?
My "perfect" yoga session lasts 90 minutes or longer and is always different and unique, depending on how I'm feeling that day and the story the student brings with them. My gemstones and soothing scented sprays are essential. I only actually use music when I'm feeling very playful and can flow with it. However, I generally prefer quiet; my ocean-like breathing is enough for me. ;)
Do you teach yoga often?
Initially, it was only once a week, until the occasional event, some substitute teaching hours, and smaller workshops were added. Now I've been fortunate enough to make yoga my main profession, teaching yoga and other fitness programs in a wonderful, large hotel.
What yoga teacher training courses have you already completed?
The Ashtanga Yoga & Vinyasa Flow training - 200h India , the Yin Yoga training with Stefanie Arend - 61h Cologne , the Ashtanga Intensive Workshop with Gregor Maehle in Vienna and the Breath Work 34 UE Sivananda Yoga at the Vedanta Seminar House Reith in Kitzbühel .

What values do you want to convey to your followers on Instagram and YouTube?
Spread more love. Accept yourselves as you are! Don't put pressure on yourselves on the mat or in daily life, but enjoy your journey here and now.
Do you have any specific goals for 2020?
I would like to have more time for myself and my yoga practice. I also want to travel to Honduras and Nicaragua with a backpack.
What do you wish for in the next 10 years?
"Lokah Smasta Sukhino Bhavantu", that nature will be restored to harmony.
Is there a motto you live by that you'd like to share with us?
"Go every path in love" and "Practice and all is coming"

Why do you recommend starting yoga?
Just try it with the right amount of joy, curiosity, and courage to try new things, and it can be quite exciting. Try different classes, styles, and teachers at first until you feel understood and at home.
Which is your favorite LUVIYO mat?
Ohhh, I love them all! I have both the regular and the travel mats. Especially during sweaty yoga flows – like on my balcony – I always appreciate the great grip. Since I also love teaching and practicing outdoors, I'm glad I can just throw them in the washing machine afterward. And I think the colors and patterns are simply unique! Thank you for that.
What would your dream mat design look like?
I love the colors dark green and petrol, as well as the colors of nature. A jungle or tropical leaf design would definitely be my favorite! ;)
